SUMMER TANGO CAMP
Summer Tango Camp is aimed for all dancers of Argentine tango. The camp offers workshops at four skill levels: beginner, improver, intermediate and advanced. There will also be a group for double role dancers.
The teachers this year will be Pasi & Maria Laurén, Daniel Valenzuela & Anaïs Virenque, Luis Rojas & Meeri Friman, Seita Keloluoto & Ari Sirén and Malin Backström & Saana Kalliokoski.
You're not dancing tango yet? No worries! On Saturday and Sunday we offer a full beginner course of Argentine tango with an introduction lesson on how to dance at a milonga – this is a great way to start this wonderful hobby. Welcome!
You can join the camp either with a full pass that includes workshops, milongas, sauna sessions, meals and accommodation, or with a camp pass that includes all the same except for accommodation and breakfasts. Pass prices
All passes include classes of one group: one on Friday and four over Saturday and Sunday. Registration is done with a partner – except that for the double role group no partner is needed. If you don't have a partner, you may search for one for example in this Facebook group.
As we'll be surrounded by wonderful Finnish nature, we'll enjoy Solvalla’s fine lakeside saunas after the classes on Friday and Saturday. Due to limited size of the saunas they are only available for participants attending the workshops, teachers and camp volunteers.
For residents of Finland, participation in Summer Tango Camp requires membership of Amigos del Tango ry (except for the beginner course and milongas). The camp is organised entirely by volunteers. You can join the association here, membership fee €25/year: tango.fi/en/liity
You can of course attend only the milongas if you like! There will be four milongas: evening milongas on Friday and Saturday at Solvalla hall and day milongas on Saturday and Sunday at Nature Centre’s Haltia hall. The venues are situated in buildings next to each other. On Saturday before the evening milonga there'll be a milonga etiquette introduction for new dancers in the Solvalla hall, and milonga guests are welcome to join as well.
As many dancers are sensitive to smells and tango is a close up dance, please do not use any perfumes or other scented products when you arrive at the camp classes or milongas. Thank you for considering others!
Solvalla's restaurant is only for the camp attendees but Nature Center Haltia's restaurant serves the milonga visitors every day until 18 hrs. In evening milongas snacks will be sold for affordable prices. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic basket and drinks. We do not serve alcoholic drinks but you can also bring your own bubbles!
The Summer Tango Camp is organised at Solvalla Sport Institute, surrounded by forests and lakes. The address is Nuuksiontie 82, 02820 Espoo. You can easily get there by public transport from Helsinki (direct bus 245 / 245A from Espoo train station) or by your own car – there is plenty of parking space.
You may take a look at some photos from the previous camps here.
See you in Solvalla in August!
If needed, you may contact the camp organising team at kesaleiri@tango.fi.
Amigos del Tango ry's 23rd Argentine Tango Summer Camp will be held again at Solvalla Sports Institute in Nuuksio, Espoo, from Friday to Sunday, August 7–9. Welcome all new and previously attended students, teachers and milonga guests!
