Rhythms in tango

Friday 27.12.  🕒 14 – 17

Tango does not have a fixed rhythmic pattern that runs through an entire piece, yet some rhythms are particularly typical for tango. This workshop gives an overview on the most important rhythms, with many musical examples, and we explore the coordination of our movements with them by listening and by moving individually and in couples. In particular, the rhythm of the music is an important element for the connection and the dialogue between dance partners. The follower plays a decisive role which we will work on.

Musicality beyond rhythm

Monday 30.12.  🕒 14 – 17

Apart from rhythms, tango music has many other aspects that can and should inspire the dance, like melody, voices, articulation, colours, dynamics, and phrasing; all these produce the enormous richness in sound and expression that we have in tango. We explore how we can express such aspects in the quality of steps, in micro-timing, pauses, and flow with the longer waves in the music.

About Theresa as a teacher

"I started tango in 1995 – after having danced other dances for my whole life –; then I started to dance the leading role in 2000, and I started to DJ and organize events in Munich in 2004. As a teacher I've been working since 2005, first giving seminars about tango music – guided listening – and in the last 10 years I've been teaching the dance. For me, the biggest teaching challenge is to help the students feel the music and express it in every step and every movement."
